The Hampton Roads Whalers are proud to announce that EJHLS forward and Virginia native Ryan Salkeld will play college hockey for the Buffalo State College Bengals in the fall.  Salkeld, a 6'2, 170lbs 1991 forward from Chesapeake, VA lead the Whalers in scoring this past season with 32 goals and 42 assists for 72 points.  Buffalo State is located in Buffalo, NY and compete in the SUNYAC Conference.

"We are extremely proud of Ryan", stated Whalers Owner/GM Patrick Cavanagh.  "He is a product of the Whalers youth system and an example of hard work and dedication within the Whalers program."

"Ryan is an extremely gifted hockey player", stated Head Coach Andy Newton.  "Coach Nick Carriere and the Bengal program are getting a great student athlete.'

Salkeld joins a growing list of players who have made college commitments for the upcoming season.

The Whalers would also like to congratulate Empire forward and team captain Ryan Abshear who has accepted an Academic scholarship to Virginia Tech.
